Local Support Services Organizations

Independent Living Resource Center - Provides peer model of services for persons with disabilities including: benefits and financial management counseling, peer support, personal assistant referral and management training, housing referral/modification information, advocacy and independent living skills training. Information and referral on disability related services and issues. Offers personal care, household care, companionship, errands and driving. New Beginnings Counseling Center - Low cost counseling clinic offers individual, couples, family, and group counseling services. Day, evening, and weekend appointments are available by calling the Center at 963-7777 extension 13. Location:324 East Carrillo Street, Suite C, Santa Barbara, CA 93101

Coast Caregiver Resource Center - Helps those who care for adults with permanent, severe or progressive brain impairment which occurred after the age of 18. Helps families through information and referral, support groups, long term care planning, respite, legal consultation and caregiver training. Will provide training, education, information and referral for professionals and the general public. Some restrictions may apply for direct services. Contact: (805) 962-3600.

Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program - Provides objective health insurance information and assistance with Medicare and supplemental insurance, HMOs and long term care insurance for senior citizens. Services include assistance with billing, denials and appeals. Counseling provided at local sites throughout the county. Community education and presentations provided. Family Therapy Institute of Santa Barbara - Individual, couple, family and group counseling provided by licensed staff and/or registered interns. Specialized counseling available for child and adolescent emotional and behavioral problems, divorce, eating disorders, depression, conflict resolution, anxiety disorders and physical or sexual abuse survivors. Majority of clients are seen using the short-term, problem solving approach, emphasizing the strengths and competencies of the client. Housing Authority-City-S.B. Develops, owns and operates a variety of affordable rental housing opportunities for low-income households in Southern Santa Barbara County. Administers the federal Section 8 housing assistance program which provides rental subsidy payments to private landlords on behalf of Housing Authority clients. Housing Authority clients/tenants generally pay 30% of adjusted gross household income as rent. Current inventory in excess of 3,000 units. Recent accomplishments include Casa de Las Fuentes, Garden Court and several other award winning designs in new rental housing development. Neuropsychology

Erik Lande, Ph.D. – Dr. Lande is a licensed clinical psychologist and a neuropsychologist with experience in the rehabilitation of traumatic brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, brain infections and other neurological conditions. He completed his post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department at the University of California, Davis, Medical Center. His practice also includes assessment of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia and the assessment of financial capacity. Dr. Lande provides psychotherapy services in his Ventura office. Juan Manuel Gutiérrez , Ph.D. - Dr. Gutiérrez is the only board-certified neuropsychologist on the central coast who has completed a full two-year program in neuropsychology. Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from California School of Professional Psychology, Los Angeles, Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Neuropsychology from the Medical School of the University of Pennsylvania. Susan Farber, MA, MFT - Specialized in providing adjustment counseling to individuals, families and couples impacted by brain injury, stroke and catastrophic injury. Susan Farber was fortunate to work as a psychotherapist and case manager for 7 years at Solutions, a community based neuro-rehabilitation program located in Santa Barbara. While at Solutions and through personal experience as a survivor, she gained invaluable insight into the adjustment issues experienced by those in recovery. Susan also specializes in the areas of anxiety, depression, grief/loss, chronic pain, substance abuse, break-up/divorce, caregiver and women's issues. She offers groups for caregivers and individuals with brain injury, stroke and chronic pain. Susan Farber's office is wheel chair accessible and located close to public transportation.
